FSSAI license is required for all food related operations such as manufacturing, trading, restaurants, small eateries, grocery shop, importers, exporters, home based food businesses, dairy farms, processors, retailers etc. Before commencing business, all such business entities are required to obtain 14 digit license number. The validity of Food license is for 1 to 5 years and has to be renewed accordingly.
In addition to this, FSSAI License holder is also required to file periodic return with FSSAI.
There are basically 2 FSSAI Returns:-
- Annual Return in Form D-1
- Half Yearly Return in Form D-2
Annual Return- Form D-1:
- Form D-1 is to be filed by all the FSSAI license holders including food manufacturers, labelers, re-packers and every FBO, exporters and importers except those dealing in Milk and Milk Products.
- Return is to be filed annually by 31st May following the end of financial year.
- Late Fees- Rs. 100 per day for each day of delay after 31st May.
- Information to be provided in Form D-1:-
- Name of the Food Product manufactured/exported/imported/handled;
- Size of package;
- Quantity in Metric Tons;
- Sale Price per Kg or unit;
- Value;
- Quantity exported/imported (in kgs.)
- Name of the country or port of export;
- Rate per unit or Kg of packing CIF/FOB;
Half Yearly Return Form D-2:
- All manufacturers of Milk and Milk products holding FSSAI License need to file half yearly return in Form D-2.
- Due date of filing Form D-2:-
- 1st April to 30th September:- On or before 31st October
- 1st October to 31st March:- On or before 30th April
- Late Fees- Rs. 100 per day for each day of delay after due date;
